Riding in the Carpool Lane
No Comment // Written on Aug 01, 2007 // Local Phoenix/Tempe, What's on my mindSo today, after driving to downtown Phoenix for the last 2 1/2 years to Chase Tower, I finally decided to park my car for good. I have been paying $50 a month to park in the garage my Chase owns, but that has ended. I don’t know why I haven’t done this sooner. I don’t have to pay for gas. I don’t have to pay for parking. And because I’m an ASU student, I get a free bus card that’s good for 1 year. I just wish I could have done this sooner.
On top of that, the city bus I take is so convient. It’s called Tempe express, the last stop in Tempe is one mile from my house, so I drive my car one mile, wait a couple minutes, hop onto the city bus, from Mill it goes right to the freeway, carpool lane I might add, and while you other suckers are stressed out about traffic and your gas bill, I’m listening to my iPod and playing solitare or reading a book, maybe doing some homework on my laptop. The bus dosen’t stop from the moment I get on until downtown Phoenix where I get off at Central Station (Central & Van Buren) across the street from my work. It dosen’t get better than that… oh wait it does!

Not only is it cheeper, even if I had to pay for the bus, it also is very clean, they have reclining seats, they actually look like charter buses inside with overhead bins for your backpack/suitcase or whatever. You also get your own personal air vent and lighting above like in the airplanes. Also since they are only people who work downtown, you don’t have to deal with the smelly, drunk people on the bus too (although there is nothing wrong with that if you are a smelly drunk person who rides the bus!). And one final benefit, with all this global warming/environmental talk, it is good for the environment. One less car on the road. I just can’t wait till the light rail starts up. You can drink in Tempe, take the rail to a D-Backs game, not pay for parking, and ride it back home.
